As I anticipated in the previous blog, the biggets new feature in KNIME 2.6 is the extension of the Quickform category. Now a few more Quickform nodes are available for a more interactive implementation of the KNIME workflows.
The most important new Quickforms are the Column Selection, the Column Filter, The Value Selection, and the Value Filter Quickform nodes.
There are also a few GUI enhancements in KNIME 2.6.
It is possible now to switch a grid on and use the "snap to grid" option to move nodes and annotations around in the KNIME workbench.
In every configuration window there is now a help button to start the help window when needed.
There are two more views: the Node Monitor and the Customized Node Repository. The Node Monitor allows to monitor the node settings and output data during the workflow execution. The Customized Node Repository is available for licensed products only and allows to store only a subset of nodes. The Customized Node Repository can be controlled centrally.
As about loops, a new GourpLoopStart node loops around groups of data. First detects the list of values in a given column, then loops around those valuesselecting the data group with that particular value.
The Loop End Variable node collects flow variables rather than data.
Loop control has now improved and you can now reset any node inside the loop to reset the whole loop.
The new Java Environment
There is now a new Java Snippet node with an enhanced java editor. The old Java Snippet node has become the Java Snippet (simple) node with the simplified editor, while the new Java Snippet node offers more editor functionalities.
Similarly, in the flow variables we have a Java Edit Variable (simple) node with the simplified java editor and a Java Edit variable node with the more complex java editor.
The new Metanode Wizard
Metanodes can be now re-configured. You can add, remove, or modify ports at any time by selecting Reconfigure Meta Node from the metanode context menu.
The KNIME Server
The KNIME Server has now a step-wise execution so that you can better monitor your workflow run. In particular, the steps are defined by the Quickform nodes in your workflow.
There is also an email notification and the possibility to schedule the report execution.
There are a few more new features, like the integration of WEKA 3.6, the random forest classifier, new nodes for statistical hypothesis testing, and more.
A video summarizes the new features in KNIME 2.6 and you can find it on the KNIME TV channel on youtube (http://youtu.be/-nVG2jlsXks).
