I did have a look at the poll results (http://www.kdnuggets.com/2014/06/kdnuggets-annual-software-poll-rapidminer-continues-lead.html) and … I have never seen so many complaints!
Most of the criticisms deal with the method used to recruit voters. Asking random people on the street might sometimes work to collect an unbiased sample of voters. However, asking data scientists to vote on the web and especially empowering software vendors with the recruiting procedure is very likely to lead to a skewed population sample.
I find it somewhat ironic that a poll about data analytics tools is so controversial about its data collection methodology!
