With the new version of KNIME (KNIME 2.4) it is now possible to read a SAS data set into a workflow.

KNIME Labs has produced a dedicated node to read SAS datasets, named “SAS7BDAT(DSREAD)”. Since the node belongs to KNIME Labs, it is not part of the basic KNIME installation. To have it, you need to install the KNIME Labs extension first.

To install the KNIME Labs extension, in the top menu:
-          Click “Help”
-          Select “Install New Software …”
-          Select the update site, like: http://www.knime.org/update/2.4
-          Open the “KNIME Labs Extensions” category
-          Select “KNIME SAS7BDATA Reader (Windows Only)”
-          Click “Next” and follow the installation instructions

I am just back from the KNIME User Meeting in Zurich. I have listened to some very interesting presentations about what is possible to implement with KNIME.

Some of the presentations mentioned SAS explicitely as the reference data analysis software. A few people were praising the book ("KNIME Beginner's Luck") and asked when and about what I will write the next one.

So, I have an idea now about writing a quick guide to KNIME for SAS users.
